Dame Joanna Lumley becomes a Vice President of Romney Marsh Historic Churches Trust

We are delighted to announce that Dame Joanna Lumley has graciously accepted our invitation to become a new Vice President of Romney Marsh Historic Churches Trust.

Dame Joanna recently gave a captivating talk as guest speaker at our 2023 AGM in May, where she acknowledged both the historic importance of the Romney Marsh churches and the vital role that shared community spaces play in bringing people together, especially in rural areas.

Ever generous with her time, Dame Joanna is well known for her work to champion charitable causes and we are very grateful that she will be stepping into this role for the Trust. She supports a number of excellent charities in the local area and knows Romney Marsh well. During her childhood, Dame Joanna attended schools in nearby Rolvenden and Hastings and she still has friends in the area. She visited the marsh throughout her childhood and has fond memories of the churches, describing them as, “beautiful and irreplaceable”.

Dame Joanna joins a number of other esteemed Vice Presidents of the Trust, all of whom help raise awareness about our important mission to preserve the historic churches on Romney Marsh for all to enjoy. The wonderful new endorsement comes as we celebrate 40 years of work with the churches, with over £1.5m awarded to support them. We would like to thank all of our loyal members, supporters and volunteers as we enter an exciting next chapter.
